My First TriLUG meeting

TriLUG

Hey all,

Went to my first TriLUG meeting today. Got to see Mark Spencer, the CTO from Digium to give a talk on Asterisk.

Per trilug’s website:

Our speaker will be Mark Spencer of Digium giving a talk entitled “From Project to Product”

Discussion will primarily be focused on the transition from creating an open source project through productization and building a company around it. Questions will be strongly encouraged at the end of the presentation and may be of a technical or non-technical nature. who will presumably speak about Asterisk, the open source PBX.

I thought Mark was a very down to earth guy. For being the CTO of a growing company such as his, he took the time to fly out here (flying his own plane) to talk about how he went from broke college kid to accidental entrepenuer and all the stuff he encountered along the way.  It’s not everyday you get to meet the guy who was a founding contributor for gaim/l2tp/asterisk.

I always knew that TriLUG existed, but I ran into the Chair, Matt Frye, during my technical interview for my new job at Duke. I start at Duke on March 24th and I’m literally counting down each hour, which seems to make my days at Hosted Solutions last that much longer.

In the end though, I’ve got nothing bad to say about Hosted Solutions. For 4 years, I gave that place everything I could and probably gained double or triple the experience I would have received anywhere else. At this point in my life it’s time to move on and pursue other challenges and career goals that has become available for me to pursue at Duke.

  1. 1 Stairs

Those pictures of stairs are truly amazing! Maybe it is because I am so conditioned to see stairs as a simple flat surface that they were so striking, but they really did seem so odd and appealing artistically!
